Being overweight, be it in the case of humans or pets, can lead to a host of ailments and diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and even cancer.
1. Take a Jog or Run
Though it is one of the most conventional methods of exercise, running is still perhaps the best exercise for you and your canine friend. Find a track or maybe a path at the park that welcomes dogs. Then put on your most comfortable running shoes and make it a part of your everyday routine to go jogging or running with your pet. It will be an excellent cardio workout for both of you. What’s more, you and your dog will get to enjoy the great outdoors while building up your fitness and stamina.
2. Go Hiking
One of the most fun and sight filled exercises with your dog is going on a hike. It’s best to start off with shorter, less intense hikes and gradually work your way up. Even if it may seem like simple walking, but with changes in elevation, hikes can often get strenuous. Since you are essentially on your own when on a hike, it’s good to be well-equipped. Make sure you carry a first-aid kit and attach an ID tag on your pet. Have collapsing bowls and bottles of water for your dog because hiking can get any dog or human thirsty.
3. Swim Away
When you have had a hard day at work and your dog is feeling exhausted as well, consider the high impact exercise of swimming. It stimulates the body and provides the much-needed release of energy. To make things more exciting in the backyard pool or at the lake, bring along a ball or some other floating object that your dog can swim and fetch. Swimming is a great way to combine exercise and playtime, making the experience a really enjoyable one!
